Description: 26th October 1966.
The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Alderman J.S. Walsh (second from right) opens the new wholesale meat market and abattoir on Pontefract Lane, one of two wholesale markets on neighbouring sites that were opened on the same day, the other being a fish, fruit and vegetable market. The meat market was designed by Mr. E.W. Stanley, Leeds City Architect, in association with John Brunton and partners, and built by Richard Costain (construction) Ltd at a cost of £1,290,000.
