Chris Old the Yorkshire and England cricketer once lived on this road. When I played rugby at West Park Bramhope in my twilight years I was 3Rd team captain, and Chris was a member of that team. His brother Alan of course was an international rugby player, but Chris was more than useful at the sport.
I (and still do), have lived on Breary Lane-East for over 62 years. I used to know all the residents by name - but not anymore. In my youth (1950's), I used to get up early, on a Saturday, so that I could deliver milk - up the lane - with Mr Lawrence in his 3-wheeled machine. Happy memories. In the past, my sister used to live next door (with chris old)- yes, ex-brother in-law. I remember when the lane was resurfaced (circa 1975) at the residents expense. Now, the coucil have (adopted) the lane and you cannot do anything with it - I have tried! I have quite a few scars from tripping / falling off my bike in the pot holes. That telegraph pole is still there - probably not the original one though.
