Thorner Fish Pond
Description:
Undated. Early twentieth century image showing a body of water surrounded by a pathway and seating, entitled @Boating Lake'. On the right is a one storey brick out building possibly toilets or some sort of pavillion. It is thought to be Thorner fish pond, situated on the footpath from Wetherby Road which crosses over the fields to Thorner village. It was formed by damming Scarcroft Beck and had a sluice gate that provided a head of water to Scarcroft Mill. Evidence of this can still be seen today. Nowadays, however, the area is overgrown but can still be walked around.

This isn't Thorner. The land is too flat, it never had a brick shelter, no seating, or an island.

I have to agree with Charlie Davis here. I have previously contacted people in the Thorner area about this, and so far, none of them have reported any recollection of such a lake.

Comment:
I have seen this photograph before entitled Thorner Fish Ponds / boating lake, but I fear it is a rogue entry under Thorner. There is a small lake locally refered to as the fish ponds, but it is certainly not in surroundings such as this shot depicts. Perhaps Thorne near Doncaster ??
