Description: 1948.
Image shows a view of the Seven Arches Aquaduct in Adel Woods as it spans Adel Beck. It was taken with a Kodak Brownie camera in 1948. The aquaduct dates from 1841/42 and was built to carry water from Eccup Reservoir to Leeds City Centre. In 1998 the listed structure was successfully stablilised with strained cables at a cost of £160,000, as it was leaning and in danger of collapse. The scheme was awarded a Historic Bridge Award in the year 2000. Photograph courtesy of Robert H. Stead.
