Description: Undated. Image shows the Lawnswood Arms, a Tetley's public house on Otley Road. This large pub displays a Mock Tudor frontage and the Tetley's huntsman logo above the entrance. Today this is a family pub with a Children's Wackey Warehouse located on the far right. User Comments: Name: Martin Hopkins Comment: Looking at the models of cars,i guess this is the early to mid 60`s.Just a few models that can be seen are Morris Minor Van,Ford Anglia,Vauxhall Velox,is that an E_Type on the left? also the big car looks like a roller/Bentley. You missed out the two cars on the right which are Mk1 Cortina, and an Austin 1800/2200. But I'd guess it was the early 1970's by the 1800/2200 - bigger version of the Allegro (which some called the 'All Aggro') Email: Not displayed ________________________________________________________________________________ Name: Baz Comment: Les, it's always debatable when you try to date a photo by the cars, but this watering-hole was a bit up-market so it's more than likely that there would have been a current model there at the time. I can't see a 70's car in the photo. The 1800 was the big-sister of the 60's 1100, not the 70's Allegro - its big-sister was a Maxi. The two Victors are also early 60's - they were followed by the 101 which was also gone by 1971. I like this game. Sept 08. Email: Not displayed ________________________________________________________________________________ Name: George Lacey Comment: OK guys ,behave yourselves!!I can garauntee there where no cars of any of those vintages when i last visited this pub (14th jan 2010).IT was my second visit in 4 weeks as i am on holiday from Australia and have friends who live in the area.My wife and I found the place lived up to the reputation our friends promised.The meals are one of the best deals around with their two for one setup during the week.We will be making one last visit next week(in our hired Chevrolet Matiz flying shoebox)!! Its also a regular place for a pick-me-up pint for people returning from visiting the nearby Lawnswood cemetery. 21-1-2010 Date: 21-Jan-2010 Email: fabfash@hotmail.com ________________________________________________________________________________ Name: Ian Smith Comment: Hi everyone - I remember the Lawnswood Arms in the 1950's/60's as being just a big pub with a small function room behind, and a big car park. In the late 60's/early 70's (I think), a large extension was built on the rear of the pub, which was capable of hosting larger functions such as dinner/dances, etc. I had my 21st birthday party in the original function room in 1967 and my wedding 'evening do' in the same place in 1969. The pub became a regular meeting place for Leeds University students from Bodington Hall. I liked the 'traditional' appearance of the pub as it is in the photograph displayed. Nowadays, everything has been painted over in one colour which, personally, I find unattractive and has spoilt the look of the building.
