The Rodley Barge Pub, Town Street
Description:
Undated. On the right of the image is The Rodley Barge public house. The pub is located on Town Street with the Leeds & Liverpool Canal running behind it. On the left of the pub is a shop with a sign advertising 'Guns' above the shop window. It sold fishing tackle and, at one time, hired out rowing boats. In the distance on the far left can be seen the Swing Bridge for the Canal.

As a 15 year old lad I used to go fishing behind this pub. Over the years I have fished all along the canal, from the swing bridge down to the Dark Arches. I used to go for some practice on my reflexs by pimping (that is the smallest hook and half a maggot, a match stick and a dust shot), I remember I once went fishing just off Bramley Fall Woods for over 12 hours with out catching anything.

Wasn't there a boat store next door ? I was buying plywood from there for a boat I was building.Being young and knowledgable as to the power of the wind, the plywood flow of the top of the car and ended up in the canal. I had to go over the other side and retrieve the panals. The boat did get finished ok.
