Undated. Image shows a large stone built property in Weetwood. A sign reads 'The Bents' an the gates covering the entrance to the property on the right.
Mr John Smith.
Back in September 1973,some friends of mine, moved into this house, then called Hammond House,Weetwood Court. It was been used as Hall of Residents for ladies, Leeds Polytechnic.
The property belonged to Leeds Polytecnic in 1985, my husband was an academic and we were privileged to live there for a period of time. The gates on the picture were for the property next door, the main entrance was from lower down the hill giving access were the tower/turret is, to the large entrance hall, all panelled in wood with sweeping stair case. Our thoughts, with the grandeur of the high ceilings was that possibly it's original occupants would have been an affluent mill owner.
This is now known as Weetwood Manor and was converted into Luxury Flats after being left empty for a number of years and suffering from much vandalism including the loss of the sweeping staircase.
Can someone tell me if this was the derelict building that backed onto the 'otley road' sewerage beds? and also oxley hall?
