St. Thomas's Church, Stanningley Road

Description:
2005. Image shows the Church of St. Thomas in Stanningley Road, close to the junction with Town Street. It was completed in 1841 in the Norman style with stone tiled pyramid spire. The foundation stone was laid on 5th November 1839 and St. Thomas's was consecrated on 29th March 1841. The Church is surrounded by a Churchyard and could accommodate 450 people for services.

My Dad was in the choir here in the 1950s. He had a wonderful booming bass voice but I remember being mortified, aged 6, when he lost concentration and carried on singing after the others had stopped. My Dad also ran the youth club and an olt time dancing class. The vicar at that time was Charles Young but I also remember Rev. Slack who took over from him.
