Gomersall's Pop works, Low Street, old machinery

Subject ID:
West Ardsley
Subject Year:
David Atkinson Archive
Class number:
c1920. View of old machinery at Gomersall's Pop works situated in Low Street. This was a machine for filling the old codd bottles with mineral water. The codd bottles were sealed with a glass ball bearing onto a rubber neck and the mineral water was fed into the bottle as it was held vertically. They went out of fashion in the 1920s and most of them were sold to a firm in Karachi. Image used courtesy of Peter Aldred and Tom Gomersall. Photograph from the David Atkinson Archive.
