Description: 1950s.
Aerial view over Woodkirk in the 1950s. In the bottom lefthand corner the tower of St. Mary's Church is visible and just above is St. Mary's Church Vicarage. In the centre of the bottom is St. Mary's Church Sunday School, and to the right of it a house called Hillside. Dewsbury Road cuts across from left to right. The road upwards leads to Woodkirk Station. The railway line, with the level crossing, can be seen running from left to right towards the top. At the junction of the two roads is The Cardigan Arms, demolished in the 1970s for road widening. Railway House is visible above the field of farm animals on the left. Cardigan Farm is immediately behind the Cardigan Arms. Image used courtesy of Peter Aldred. Photograph from the David Atkinson Archive.
