c1938 View of York Road showing the junction with Temple View Road on the right. In the centre, no.160 York Road, Mrs. Lois Hodgson, ladies hairdresser, appears to be closed, but to the right no.158, S. Blakey & Sons, pork butcher, and no.156 Norman Brown, newsagent, are still open. These properties were all shortly to be demolished.

Sam Blakey (S Blakey & Sons Ltd) was my great grandfather. Most of his children went into the family butcher business and had their own shop. My grandmother got her butchers shop on her marriage - that was on the corner of Compton Crescent in Harehills.
