Description: 29th June 2007.
View of the Central Library/Art Gallery shop which opened up in the Tiled Hall, alonside a cafe, in June 2007. The highly decorated walls and ceiling of the Hall have been restored to much like the original state they would have been in when the Municipal Buildings opened on 17th April 1884 and this space was occupied by the Reading Room. At the time The Yorkshireman described the room as 'a magnificent place' and feared that the spectacular ceiling would mean that 'people will be continually gazing up at it, instead of quietly reading the magazines and newspapers'.
