C1938 View of York Road showing a row of shops numbered 201-215. On the left, by the junction with Glenthorpe Crescent, no.201 is the former Thrift Stores, grocers, which appears to be closed, with advertising covering the windows. Next to this is City Aviaries, bird dealers, at 203, Geo. Eric Foad, wireless apparatus dealer, 205, Joseph Jowitt, dairyman, 207, Isaac Christmas, fishmonger, 209 Joseph Dean, fruiterer, 211, Gallons Ltd, grocers at 213 and Julius Bland, draper, at 215. On the left, a poster advertises the film 'The Crowd Roars', starring Robert Taylor, released in 1938.

The double fronted shop became Adlemans clothiers in late 30s early 40s. It then moved down york road near the woodpecker junction.
