Pat, I am a Paramedic currently based at Leeds Ambulance station. These pictures (and several others) are still on our mess room wall. I only joined the Ambulance service a few years ago so I can't tell you much about the 80's but I will put a message up on the staff notice board so that any of the staff from that time can see it and put a message on this site for you. If you could e-mail me with your Husbands name it might jog a few memories.

I am a paramedic, now retired, since I'm 76. I lived in beeston but was never an AMBO in Leeds. However we emigrated here to melbourne, OZ, in 1970 and at the time they were begging for recruits to join the service. I,along with 100 others applied, and 10 us us were selected. I stayed for 33 years in total. English migrants were favoured at the time because we knew the language and could handle to training. Some of the other 90 or so who applied could hardly read, and one had only one eye!!! I am now a member of the RETIRED AMBULANCE OFFICERS ASSOC here in Melbourne. I would never have even considered ambulance work while living in the UK.
