Headrow Primark, Former Odeon Cinema
Description:
February 2007. Image shows the former Odeon Cinema, now Primark, located on the Headrow at the corner with New Briggate, left. The Odeon Cinema opened as the Paramount in 1932 and was part of Sir Reginald Blomfield's design for the new Headrow. It closed as the Odeon in 2000 and Primark acquired the freehold of the building. The conversion was completed and the new store opened in 2005.

I saw the Rolling Stones for the first time when this was the Odeon, about 1966 or 67. Me and my brother Kevin queued with others on the evening of the show. I seem to remember paying seven and sixpence. The compere was Long John Baldry, the supporting acts were the Yardbirds, with Jeff Beck and I think Eric Clapton, Ike and Tina Turner, and a band called Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers. There may have been other acts, but I don't remember. The Stones were the headliners, but I don't think they were on for much more than 20 minutes, and they could hardly be heard for the screaming of the young girls in the audience. I'd love to see them in a similar venue today!

The Bill Haley concert was 14 February and believe the year was 1957. It was our first date so we remember it well.
