The boys club was shut during the second world war and we moved into a big building on Church Row. It was opened again just after the war and was run for awile by Mr Pagdin the then head master of Leeds Parish Church school a teacher and gentleman of the highest order quite a change from his predecessor Mr Taylor (DADDY) we called him was quite a tyrant or did i just get on the wrong side of him. Added December 2007 Raymond Jones.

I played with the Market District Under 17's and Under 19's Rugby league teams in the early 60's. Our home ground was at the Soldiers Field at Roundhay and if transport wasn't available we'd all catch the bus thare and back in our playing kit from Briggate. We must have been in a right mess coming home after playing in a field full of mud. Bet you couldn't do it now. I live in Australia these days and would love to hear from any of the old Market lads

Ref Keith Weston, Keith won almost every thing as a amateur at light middle but as a semi pro he didn't do as well. The YEP gave him the nick name 'Canvas Keith' and he retired after only 10 fights as semi pro. The report in the YEP for his last fight if I remember was 'Canvas Keith hits the Canvas for the last time' . He retired at the age of 21... He married Elaine and has three children.

Can anyone remember playing with or against the Ashley Road Methodists side of the early fifties. My grandfather Jack Garbutt was the manager. By all accounts they were pretty good.
