The long roof in the middle of the photo was the roof of the "special" school.. I never quite knew why but I gathered it was for what is now termed as special needs children. This was a lovely little school building. The teachers used to ring the big brass school bell at play time & dinnertime. the sound of it would carry on the air on a quiet day, as would the sound of the children playing. I remember it well as I was laid up at home in Aviary Row for what seemed like an age with chicken pox. Still got those little scars dotted about my person as a reminder !!
