Canal Basin, historic crane
Description:
Undated. Image shows one of three remaining cranes in the canal basin which have been preserved for their historical, interest. In the background the 'dark arches' can be seen which run under the railway viaduct. These were opened up as a visitor attraction in the 1980s with various shops, craft stalls and street entertainment. Immediately behind the crane is Leeds City Station and a multi-storey building that is City House. On the right there is a rear view of the Dragonara Hotel in Neville Street which opened in April 1973. It was built on the site of Whitley's School Close Woollen Mills. Since 1988 it has been known as Leeds Hilton.
