Richardshaw Lane, omnibus
Description:
c1960s. View of a Farsley omnibus travelling along Richardshaw Lane, close to the Farsley Omnibus Garage. The railway viaduct at Stanningley Bottom can just be seen in the background. Taken between 1966 and 1969.

The bus registration would help to date this view, and is the car a Ford Consul. My guess the date is early '60s, I believe the Farsley Omnibus Co was taken over by Wallace Arnolds. They were a coach business with coach station & offices in The Calls.

The bus is a Leyland Titan with locally built Roe bodyworkIt was new to Farsley Omnibus in 1966. Wallace Arnold sold the Farsley routes to Leeds City Transport in 1969 although the bus was kept and used in Scarborough by anothe Wallace Arnold subsiduary This means that the picture can be dated between 1966-1969. The bus appears to be on Richardshaw Lane opposite its home depot. The bus later ran for Morley operator Black Prince

Comment:
It definitely is Richardshaw Lane looking downwards towards Stanningley Bottom. The bus blind is displaying the wrong destination, it's en route to Pudsey (or returning to Depot). The car is not a Ford Consul but a Prefect/Anglia.

It's a good job that the bus is the subject of the photograph because dating it by the car would be really difficult. It is a side-valve engined, three-speed-gearbox Ford Prefect which had long been superceded by the New Anglia in around 1961.
