Bischoff's Yard, off Cross Belgrave Street

Subject ID:
City Centre
Subject Year:
Leeds Library & Information Services
Class number:
c1968. View of Bischoff's Yard located off Cross Belgrave Street and running parallel with Hartley Hill. In the background, Bischoff House appears to be in the process of demolition. This is thought to have been designed by William Etty and is shown on the Cossins' map of 1725 when it belonged to Nathaniel Denison. At that time it was known as Sheepscar Hall. The house, which later belonged to the Bischoff family, stood at the junction of Hartley Hill and North Street. In the years leading up to its demolition (c1968) it was occupied by Arthur English Ltd. Electrical Contractors, addressed as number 2 Hartley Hill. Amongst the parked cars in Bischoff's Yard a taxi is visible.
