Undated. Meanwood Road County Primary School is the backdrop for this group photograph showing the Salvation Army Singing Company. The children, in uniform, are posing for the camera in front of the Salvation Army Citadel at number 175 Meanwood Road. The red brick-built school is now demolished but was situated at the junction of Education Road with Meanwood Road and adjacent to the Corporation Baths. Opposite the school, next to the Salvation Army Hall is the junction with Cambridge Road.

This ws the school I attended until I was eleven, when we'd moved to Scott Hall Road. I'd passed the 11+ and left Meanwood Road to go to Allerton High School. It's good to see 'my school' but it looks bigger than I remember. I have a lot of memories about it, there's not enough space here.

Unless I'm very much mistaken the tall (lanky) girl on the back row is me!!! This was such a surprise - remember I used to go the Sally Army until I was about 12, used to get ribbed a bit at school. I was also in the brownies and played the tamborine - happy memories

My parents where caretakers at this school up to 1947. I attended as an infant from the age of 3 at this time it was continuous education for girls till you left 14 then in 1949 was changed to 15.I remember the war years with the air raid shelters and the gas masks.

I attended the school from 1961 to 1964. Miss Thomas was the Headmistress. Primary school was on the ground floor and a girls secondary school above. PE for boys included playing with plywood building bricks the size of packing cases,in the school hall. I recall the school closing for about three weeks due to an outbreak of Typhoid.

I attended this school from 1952 to 1963 as did my twin sisters Maureen and Shirley 6 years earlier.I have very happy memories of my school days and often think of the friends I made there. I would love to hear from anyone who also attended during these years and remember me.Many thanks for the photo.

I attended this school from 1933 to 1939 when I was evacuated to Retford in Nottinghamshire along with other pupils & teachers,I came back home in 1941 & went back to the school where I was head girl in 1944 the head teacher was Miss Upstone, I left in that year at the age of 14.

I went to this scholl from 1954 until I moved to Scott Hall Secondary in 1964. i also went to the Sally Army after school and at weekends too. I remember the school canteen as was over the road behind the Salvation Army, we used to have to cross over on the zebra crossing in to the middle where the shops were than over the other zebra crossing to the other side. The playing fields were a distance away up the road. I can remember having a nap in the afternoon too, and the nurse who I believe had a clinic there, and do a nit inspection quite frequently, I have a photo with very short hair too. Big school was such a shock to me, i only had a year there before leaving and going to work, and decimalisation came in too the same year, not moneywise but the maths kind, had to grow up quick!!!

I attended Meanwood Road school from about 1963-1967. I can remember a great little wendy house with a shop and pretend sweets in jars. In the mornings we had to dance around interpreting classical music, in particular Hall Of The Mountain King by Pier Gynt (don't know how to spell it), I love that piece of music to this day. I can remember going swimming to the pool next door in the mornings and the nurse putting gentian violet on my knee when I fell over in the playground. I can also remember the dinner lady calling me "son" and I said "but I'm a girl" -my hair was short,I was about 5! I also used to go to Brownies across the road and played the tambourine in the Salvation Army, I might be in the photo but I'm not sure, it looks like me in the front, blonde hair. I remember going on a coach to different towns with the Salvation Army and being sick all the way there and all the way back, I only went once!!!

I went to the infants/junior part of this school 1960 to 64. The only teachers name I can recall was a Mrs Dawes? I'm sure she was the headmistress, of the primary school section. i have memories of a few friends I made though, Neil Williamson, Robert Vasey, Dawn Myers, a boy called Arthur cant remember his surname but his birthday was 14th September , strange how I remember that! (same as mine thats why :)). Remember buying sweets over the road near the zebra crossing. Going to the Saturday matinee at the Royal, or bughutch as most pictures were called. There was a ginnel between the school and Meanwood Road Car sales that took you down to the beck and came out on Sackville Street, went exploring down there many a time. If anyone remembers me please get in touch. happy carefree days.........

Went to meanwood road after they knocked down Buslingthorpe School. Head mistress was Mrs Griffin or was it Griffis. I can also remember Miss Carr, Miss Nicholson and a very old teacher who retired the day we left called Miss Margaret’s. It had awful outside toilets, did old time dancing every Monday morning, had a big May Day event each year with a large may pole and lots of dancing outside, and passed all my swimming certificated next door at the baths. The school had a clinic at one end where could get your warts treated and year ears syringed.

Went to Meanwood Rd School from the age of 4? (Nursary). Left in 1955 (age 15) Failed 'Scholarship' exam). Headmistress was Mrs Wilkinson. Got me a place at Isles Lane Tech. Studies Shorthand/Typing etc for a year. Loved it.Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me.

I attended this school from 1965/66 until 1969 and lived at Ashfield Street. Unfortunately I didn't pay attention to peoples surnames back then so it's a bit difficult finding connections. I remember the sweet shop near the zebra crossing, the nit nurse and the salvation army doing the school dinners. I remember a teacher form New Zealand who taught us a Maori song. It broke my heart when she left. I had a best friend called Ann??? Think her dad was a landlord or collected rent. Billy...blonde hair...got knocked down and ended up on crutches. Sandra Smith (Smithy), a bit older than me, lived at the end of Ashfield Street.Used to babysit for us sometimes. My brother liked a girl called Jennifer. Me and Ann used to sing 'Jennifer Eckles' to tease them. There was a lad who lived just round the corner...; funny, I can't remember his name, but his dog was called Butch. Not very helpful I know; but if anything rings a bell. :)
