Night-time view of Harry Ramsden's world-famous fish and chip restaurant on Otley Road, White Cross. Harry Ramsden (1888-1963) started the business in 1928 and soon built up a reputation for the quality of his food and for owning the largest fish and chip shop in the world, but it was not until after the business was floated on the Stock Exchange in 1988 that it became a chain of restaurants, which now boasts 170 outlets worldwide. In October 1999 it was bought by Granada Food Service company who in turn became the Select Service Partner (SSP) Ltd division of Compass. The business is now run by SSP in Weybridge, Surrey.
