Description:
Undated. View showing the front of The Nookin, an old listed building on Leeds Road. A date of 1611 is given on the house but that is thought to be a date of restoration as the building itself is believed to be at least a century older.

As far as I remember, somewhere in the late 1950's or early 1960's,this beautiful old building found itself under threat. Some authority or individual was going to demolish it. I assume that the newspaper articles about this, at the time, went a long way to enlighten the thinking 'Silent Majority' who then brought enough pressure to bear on whoever, in order to give the proposed act of wanton vandalism its well deserved 'coup de grĂ¢ce'.
