River Wharfe, weir
Undated. View of the River Wharfe showing the weir, with Wharfemeadows Park on the left and Garnett's Paper Mill on the right. The weir was built in 1872 to serve the paper mill, replacing a small dam across the river which had been in existence since at least 1677.

I remember walking along the wier to the smooth parts next to the mill. We would climb up the cobbled area and go 'wier sliding' down the green, slimy smooth part. Great fun in the day, but no doubt against all health and safety regulations now.
