Undated. View of Newlay Locks on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Newlay. Newlay Cottage is built in stone on the left. The Leeds & Liverpool Canal was constructed between 1772 and 1816. Newlay Locks is a three rise staircase and there are 44 locks on the canal as it passes through Yorkshire. This view looks in the direction of Leeds. Newlay Locks are Grade II listed.

I took this picture in the summer of 1959.One of several photographs of the Bramley area that I took when I was a student-teacher in the Teacher Training Department at Leeds College of Art.
