I attended this school from 1990 to 1996 it was a great school many happy times there and and I guess some unhappy times but when your a kid you have these experiences at school dont you. My dad went to this school infact he had some of the same teachers I had i.e. Mr Bolton with the famous adidas samba trainers and Mr Ellis whom was my head of year. Unfortunately my children will not be going to this school as I now live in Dronfield near Sheffield, in fact Dronfield is home to the oldest football team in the world Sheffield City. Anyway Royds school is now a specialist school for languages. I often drive past it when visiting family and friends and point out my old school and old haunts to my wife (my school was better than your school).

I went Royds, when it was called Rothwell Secondary Modern School (1961 to 1966). The charismatic Headmaster Charles Fletcher, was evangelical about improving educational standards. Amongst his excellent Staff at this time were Brian Robinson, Jack Unsworth, Keith Gale, Brian Lewis, Martin Tarpey, Terrance Kehoe and Mr Bucktrout. This group of teachers inspired many children to successfully take GCE exams at a time when usually only Grammer School pupils were given this opportunity. Looking back I think I was very fortunate to attend this happy and well managed school
