Description:
15th February 2008. Image shows the demolition in progress of the old swimming pool at Allerton Grange School on 15th February 2008. Under phase 1 of the Building Schools For the Future Programme, Allerton Grange will be totally rebuilt, and is expected to be completed by 2009. The swimming pool dates from 1966 when it was opened by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Alderman Joshua S. Walsh on 19th July.

As attended Allerton Grange from 1967-69 just after this swimming pool had been built and I recall the "swimming pool fund" that was launched to pay for it. The pool was brand new when I was there and it comes as shock seeing this demolition photo. How time flies...
