1970s. View of Mabgate looking towards the junction with Skinner Lane on the left, Cherry Row ahead and Lincoln Green Road to the right. In the foreground, a fireman is demonstrating the position of a fire tank, an underground chamber with direct access to the city's water mains, to be used by the fire service in case of a large fire in the vicinity. The building on the corner of Skinner Lane and Cherry Row is the former 'Red Bear' pub - derelict by this time.

the builing on the left was part of the headrow clothing group, on the right just round the corner was a cycle shop.
