Description: 20th June 1972.
View of the River Aire beside St. Aidan's Open-Cast Mine, seen from Barnsdale Road. A bridge and slag heaps can be seen in the distance. Following flooding in the area in 1988 when the river banks burst and poured into the void caused by the open-cast mining, the river was re-routed and combined with the Aire & Calder Navigation Canal, and the area is now being converted into a wetlands nature reserve.
