Burton's Field on the top left was used in the 1950s once a year for a Police Gala. We used to see horses and dogs in training. The field had a wooden fence round it once upon a time. Someone passed a message around Torre Close and Torre Place that they were repalcing the fence, so we all went with wheel barrows and ,bogies etc., took the fence down in long strips to use as firewood. Burtons took half the Torres' to court for pinching their fence. I don't think anyone was convicted, but it was embarasing to some of our more law abiding neighbours.
