I was there Nov 1966 to Dec 1967 sent there for 2 to 3 years only did 14 months, good boy. Mr Wood (headmaster) died on stage miming to Beatles Yellow submarine. I worked in joiners shop with Mr Burrows and on the farm at weekends with Mr Smith instead of going on free walks into Roundhay park. Did Duke of Edinbrough award, three peaks, lyke wake walk and many more outdoor pursuits. Still got photo of me getting my hair cut when I arrived taken by Mr jarvis. Anyone who remembers me you can get in touch via the email.

1967, the school was quaranteed because I came back from the Dispensary in Leeds diagnosed with scabies. The only person not to suffer from them was the carrier, we all had to go to a clinic somewhere in Leeds to be painted, and I can tell you that stuff was keen around your tender bits, anyone remember it? I also had my first plane flight while I was there in a Piper Comanche 4 seater with another guy from Yellow house. Did any of you ever go up to Levisham? we used to have summer camp but the time I went up on an advanced party to pitch the tents and prepare the camp the weather turned for the worse and we had to abandon and go back to school. Most of the house masters were away that fornight and we slept in the old domitaries up stairs in the main building. Some names I can remember: Mr.Murray, Mr.Croswaite, Mr.Horton, Mr. Marsden, Mr.Marsdon, Mr. Marston, Mr.Grayson, Mr.Dodson, Mr.Jarvis, Mr.Tierney, Mr.Wilson, Mr.Emmerson, Mr.Morris, Mr.Blackburn, Mr.Jones, Mr.Plaice, Aggie the nurse, Mrs, Wood matron, Mrs Hargreaves, Mrs Wardle, Mr. Jenkins, Mr. Nicholson, Mr.Bell the vicar. If any of you out there remember any of these and if you know me, get in touch via my email. Don`t be shy, hope to hear from someone.

My question does anybody remeber the BBC or YTV, did a TV series early 70's I know I was in it, just have no idea what it was called. Lift blighty (UK) many years ago. Dinky Di Australian now. Been back a few times, only glad i left. Bit ironic, I became a military Police Officer..

I was at shadwell approved school from 1959 to 1962.I worked on the farm which was about a mile from the school.I absconded numerous times once found in Blackpool. The things l did in those days.Took the cart horse for shooing,we had a great time for a couple of days until l was found then back to the school for the normal caning.Fom the farm the eggs and milk was delivered to the school which l did for a while, then l decided to go a bit further than the school and was picked up in Leeds city centre selling eggs and milk. This is just the tip of my adventuresbut it learned me a lesson and was fairly good after leaving.

I was here briefly in 64/65. It should have been three yewars but on appeal changed to 3 months detention centre at Yarm. I don't remember idividuals apart from one master who gave a lad a good slapping in class for making fun of him during a Christmas Show. That might rings bells for someone.

I used to buy soft fruit and vegetables from the farm at Shadwell School (believe it was called Shadwell Grange School in the 50s/60s) and a fresh turkey at Christmas. Beautiful produce.

I was just wondering if any of you gentlemen remember a lad called Martin Warden. He must have been in the plastering part as that is the trade which he continued up until his death last week. If anyone remembers him and has any tales to tell I would be very grateful for them.

Was in Shadwell red house from 68 until 71, almost three years there. Emmerson was headmaster, Marston. Blackwell, Marsden, Smith, Horton, Jones took over engineering shop, I remember Jarvis, he had red hair and helped cure a stutter I had and he was in charge of some allotments, Burroughs would wear those army anti snake leggins at camp in Levisham (been back there, it's nowhere near like it was, small lake has gone and river is polluted) Mr Ford was a tall big guy, I remember him well, a soft spoken nice person, I would imagine he was a kind father. I worked on farm, in decorators with Blackwell, Building with Plaice, Woodwork with Burrows where I made model cars and he threw my discarded pieces of wood at me (not to to try and hurt me, I may add)worked in the kitchen some morning with those mean old ladies and one not so mean black lady later on. Can't remember the name of the cleaning lady that had some kind of office or rest room at the side of the dining hall, Lorna something or other. I'm not sure if there was a guy there named Grinnder or whatever who became deputy head, he was a nice guy, much nicer than Emerson but my imagination could be playing tricks on me.

i was there from nov 1969 till feb 1971, green house. all the staff had a job to do and they did it well. i worked in the paint shop ( Mr Blackburn ) RIP. some of the staff were Mr Lowe, Ford Grinder & Grinder, Smith on the farm and the guy who sat next to me in the main hall was Fred Hawkins. if anyone remembers the grand piano being painted, well that was one of my jobs. i also sprayed all the inside of the houses with portoflek paint. i remember the old black stone gym with the school rooms above and the tunnel to Red, Yellow and Green house. the old dining area was huge and honest it was'nt me who twanged the butter onto the ceiling. the memories are fantastic, free walks to roundhay, swimming at armley pool and making, also painting a small sail boat which i was first to sail at roundhay park lake in 1971. Is there anybody out there still ? (facebook name) karaoke john thompson. email supplied.
