I wish i had a £ for every time i've carried a golf bag around this golf course. I started caddying when i was 11 years old. A small crowd would gather outside the very low gates to the clubhouse which was on the right. The crowd consisted of men & boys of all ages. On the left was the storage building where the golfers used to leave their bag of clubs. At about 7 am the first team of golfers, this could be a pair, or a four up, would enter to pick up their clubs, and ask for a CADDY. One of the lads in charge would come out and pick two or four from the crowd. The average time for a round was between TREE & A HALF or FOUR & A HALF HOURS, depending on whether it was a TWO UP or FOUR UP, for which i earned 5 BOB ( 25 pence ). I used to do 2 rounds on Saturday & 2 rounds on sunday, hardly missing any out. This from approximately 1948 to 1952. Just to help my struggling mother manage. 4-Dec-08.

I'm pretty sure that the golf course seen to the south of the houses in this picture is not Moortown Golf Course. It is Moor Allerton Golf course, which moved to Wike in 1971. The area covered by this golf course was mostly built over in a large housing estate, although the part immediately south of the cul de sacs visible to the right of the photo still exist and is common land.

The football fields are Moortown Rugby (bottom) and above it is the Alwoodley Community Centre football field. The Community Centre is at the top of the fields (left) and Moortown R.U. clubhouse centre of the bottom field. A stream runs from R.to L. down to Adel Woods along the bottom of the golf course.
