Description:
28th June 1972. View of St. Aidan's Open-Cast Mine from the banks of the River Aire. On March 19th, 1988 mining operations caused the banks of the river to break and water flooded for several years; now following the re-routing of the river and combining it with the Aire & Calder Navigation Canal, the site is being turned into a wetland nature reserve.
