Undated. Aerial view of the A1 junction at Boston Spa, with the A1 flyover under construction. The view is looking south with the A1 (Great North Road) running from top to bottom and the A659 from left to right. To the left the A659 is known as Moor End as it leads into Boston Spa centre.

Might I suggest that there seems to be a lack of excavation in what would become the main carriageways. Conversely, there does appear to be evidence of a considerable build-up of earthworks in the centre of the by-pass perimeter roadway and between the upper slip-roads. If this observation bears merit, then the main carriageways may possibly have been destined to fly over the junction, rather than under it. Examples of junctions of this type are Ring Road Beeston and Elland Road, on the M621. It's just a thought.

i still think this is the A1 junction at Boston Spa.You can see where the bridge supports are just being built and in the left hand corner is the old house that is still on the roundabout..I dont know whether this will still be the same as the A1 around here has been realigned

Having looked at maps of the areas suggested I am inclined to agree with the Boston Spa one; the others I'm afraid I have had to discount as they are just not the right shape or are too built up around. Can anyone else confirm this?

There seems little doubt that Steve Crossley is correct. The photo is almost exactly the same as the Boston Spa junction is presently showing on Google Earth. It should also be noted that this image is taken 'looking' South. Well done, Steve.

This is the Collingham-Boston Spa junction with the A1 under construction. If you look between the break in the trees you will see a building opposite the road running up from the bottom of the photograph. It is/was a lodge enterance to a hall off to the left and is still there today sitting on the roundabout, as are the trees, however the junction is again changing as this section of the A1 is currently beginning upgraded.

With out a doubt its Boston Spa junction on the A1 because of the house on the roundabout and general layout of woods surrounding . I know it well as I grow up only 2miles down the road at Bramham.

It is Boston Spa, looking south towards Clifford/Bramham. Of course, this "new" A1 has itself gone now,and there is a second roundabout to the West (Right in this view) on the Collingham Road. Amazing how little traffic there seems to be

What is more interesting is near the top of the picture is a little known lane called 'winnow lane' and if you follow it to the left to the line of trees this is where Boston Spa Comprehensive School was to be later built.
