U.Y.M.I. Ground, Skelton Road
Description:
Undated. View of the U.Y.M.I. Football Ground situated on Skelton Road, known as the Uni Ground. It is owned by East End Park Working Mens' Club and is the home ground of their football teams. Presently (2010)there are three teams - a First and Second team playing in the West Yorkshire Association League and a team playing in the Leeds Sunday League. The Club also supports an under 15's team playing in the Leeds & District Junior League. East End Park WMC Football Club has a history dating back to the 1920s. The stand seen in this image is no longer there. At the top of the image playing fields are visible (Osmondthorpe Recreation Ground.) These are situated opposite the Shaftesbury on York Road. Between the football ground and the playing fields allotments can be seen. Information supplied by Sean Tunnicliffe (Committee member of East End Park WMC FC).

Dont think this is off ring road but think it is finally a photo of the football ground in skelton road with the shaftesbury playing fields at the top. to the bottom left is skelton road and the buildings and chimney at the bottom are now demolished and a new care home built. you can clearly see the spectator stand and the 4 posts (bottom pitch side) that had floodlights on. 99.99% confident of what i have put as i have been manager of the current east end park wmc side, owners of the ground, for the past 6 years. any ideas of dates of this photo please and how we could obtain a copy? has anyone anymore history of this ground as it seems to be in short supply. thanks

This isn't Seacroft Football ground, it's the U.Y.M.I. Ground on Skelton Road. It's owned by East End Park WMC and is the home ground for their football teams. Sadly the stand at the side of the pitch is no longer there. In the top of the picture you can see Osmondthorpe Rec. which is on York Road opposite the Shaftesbury. Between the football ground and the Rec are some allottments. The large factory in the bottom of the picture has recently been demolished to make way for a care home.

The Stand is occupying an area that was in the 1940's a long terraced grass bank. to the right of the Stand there was a large wooden hut used as changing rooms. This ground was the venue for many of the Schools Cup finals featuring Victoria; St Patricks and Osmondthorpe Schools, all of them having featured in these Finals during the late 1940's! Like many local lads I have played on this ground as a schoolboy.

I believe the ground staged an England-France youth international in the `60`s after Elland Road pitch was declared unfit.
