This photogragh willl have been taken in the very early 1960's. I used to live at a near by village ang all the children from this estate came to our school on the number 36 bus. The estate was always called by us "locals" as the "McManus Estate" which presumabley refered to the name of the builders of the estate. I remember haveing many freinds as children from this estate one of which was Bobby Collins' (he of Leeds United fame) son

The estate in the centre (above the tennis court) and to the right was built in the early 1950,3 by Robinsons of Idle. I lived with my parents in The Close which is the cul-de-sac directly above the tennis court - tothe right of which is the Scout Hut.

I think these were Robinson-built. We moved into our new house in Winding Way in April 1957. The builders were still building the rest of the Way. Note that the right side of the Mount is not yet built - so photo probably around 1960. Really good place to live as a child, big field to play games on, very good scout troop, nearby golf courses to explore, plus Eccup resevoir etc. Good neighbours, who taught my brother and me how to play chess.

PS There were only two buses serving the area covered by the photo, the No.34 and 35. No bus along the Avenue, so alight either at King Lane or Alwoodley Lane.
