Description: Undated.
View shows on the left the gatehouse to Austhorpe Lodge, situated on Austhorpe Lane. On the right a man is herding cattle along the unmade road. Austhorpe Lodge is notable as being the birthplace, in 1724, of the celebrated engineer John Smeaton; it had been built in 1698 by his grandfather, also called John Smeaton, not long after the building of Austhorpe Hall (1694), a little to the north on Austhorpe Lane. Both Austhorpe Lodge and the gatehouse have now been demolished.
