Description: December 1989.
View of staff in chef's whites working in the kitchen of Dr. B's Caribbean Restaurant at numbers 193-195 Chapeltown Road. Although run as a successful restaurant, Dr. B's was actually a training ground for young people with an interest in learning all aspects of the catering industry. They embarked on two year courses in City and Guilds, Caterbase Hotel and catering Training Board during which time they were paid a YTS allowance. At this time the cuisine was mainly Caribbean but the restaurant has since embraced other cuisines also. It still thrives today and is a popular lunch venue between Tuesdays and Fridays. Around 70% of the young people completing their two years here go on to find work within the catering industry.
