Image shows Harehills Councillor Lorna Cohen observing a student working at the newly opened Technorth, a technology training centre situated at number 9 Harrogate Road. Councillor Cohen was a member of the management committee and was keen to involve local firms who were able to offer jobs or work placements for students. Technorth offered training for young people under the YTS scheme, training for adults, with special facilities for the disabled, evening classes and units for small starter businesses. Nowadays, it is called Technorth Family Learning Centre and has been given a three storey extension with funding from Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund. The aim is still to build skills through training in order to enable people to find employment. The centre incorporates a Jobshop with support, advice and information. Technorth opened in the September of 1985.
