Employment Minister, Kenneth Clarke meets local residents of Chapeltown
October 1986. Image shows Kenneth Clarke, the Minister for Employment, as he meets local residents of Chapeltown. Because of high unemployment levels Chapeltown had been chosen as one of eight Task Force areas throughout the country in a scheme aimed at creating jobs. £1 million was ear-marked for the scheme and it was used to establish a new Job Centre in the area plus new training initiatives and grants to the Chapeltown Community Workshops and Technorth.
