Spring 1983. Image shows three local residents attending Fearnville Sports Centre for their regular morning swimming sessions. Both Mr. Alf Watson, left, aged 69, and Mr. Thomas Kilroy, right, aged 70 completed 30 lengths of the swimming baths each morning. Mrs. Betty Winterholder, aged 61, centre, swam 20 lengths every morning. The photo and article, printed in the Gipton News, was part of a campaign by the Manager, Mr. David Jackson, to promote the facilities on offer at Fearnville Sports Centre and to encourage people to take part in sport for fun and health and fitness reasons. Among the activities were 5-a-side Football, Squash, Badminton, Karate & Judo, Weight Training, Keep Fit, Roller Skating and Swimming. Fearnville Sports Centre is situated in Oakwood Lane.
