Old stone bridge off Foundry Lane

Old stone bridge off Foundry Lane
Undated. View of the old stone-built bridge which crosses Wyke Beck in a location just off Foundry Lane. Prior to the 1930s this bridge was part of the original route of Foundry Lane. It is approximately 20 feet wide and would have carried traffic for centuries, including farm vehicles en route to and from Killingbeck Farm. To the east of the bridge an ancient sunken lane leaves the old route of Foundry Lane to run parallel with Wyke Beck before veering off to the former site of Killingbeck Farm. The lane is thought to date back to at least Medieval times. Nowadays, the bridge is overgrown but is still of historical interest. Image courtesy of John Garnett.
