Former site of Killingbeck Farmhouse
Description:
Undated. This spot is the former site of Killingbeck Farmhouse which was later converted to the administration block of the new Smallpox Hospital built c1915. This was on a separate site to the main Killingbeck Hospital which at the same time was converted for the specialist treatment of tuberculosis. Farming in this area goes back centuries and is evidenced by the lynchets running between Foundry Lane and the farm site. Lynchets are banks of earth left by continued ploughing of the slope over many years. Killingbeck Farm once provided eggs and poultry for the patients of Killingbeck and Seacroft Hospitals.
