York Road, Joy
18th September 1935. View of Joy's Fold, a yard off York Road near the junction with Marsh Lane. In the centre are the premises of Cecil Gilbert, shoeing smith, of no.15 Joy's Fold. These buildings were all soon to be demolished as part of the slum clearance programme in the area.

Sam Swallow

My great great grandfather, Joseph Swallow, died in the Union Workhouse of cancer in 1893. The death certificate said he was a nail maker of 13 Joy’s Fold. He may well have worked at this company, if it was in existence 42 years earlier.
