View showing the south-west corner of Temple Newsam House, founded by the Knights Templar in 1155 and set in an estate of 1200 acres. In 1622 its then owner Sir Arthur Ingram built most of the house as it is today. The estate remained with the Ingram family for 300 years before being bought by Leeds Corporation in 1922 and being opened up to the public.
