The Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin, interior view
Undated. A young boy stands within the old building of the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Church Street. The photograph dates from the time of the demolition of St. Mary's which was consecrated in 1864. In the 1970s it was decided to build a new church on the site while still retaining the landmark spire. The new church would also replace St. Chad's off Pepper Road. It was consecrated on 9th July 1975.
