Demolition of the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin
Undated. Image shows the remains of the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin during its demolition in the 1970s. The landmark tower, seen right, was preserved and a new replacement church was designed around it. This modern church, to be consecrated on 9th July 1975, also replaced St. Chad's off Pepper Road. In the background, from the left, are numbers 6 and 7 Walker's Court and the side of the Black Horse, Public House which fronts Lawn's Lane.
