Illuminated Electric Tram for the Royal visit of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra
Description:
7th July 1908. Tinted postcard view of the specially commissioned illuminated electric tram to mark the occasion of the royal visit to Leeds of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on 7th July 1908. The King and Queen were to open the new electrical engineering wing of Leeds University. Information on the postcard states that the tram has '3,000 electric lights' and that it 'requires 150 horse power to run it'. For the week after the visit the illuminated tram made excursions to every part of the city.
