Image shows the staff posing for the camera in front of the new Mobile library vehicle at the start of the new service. It is parked in the car park of the Dalesman Public House in Butcher Hill which was a stop on the Tuesday route. The vehicle was built by Maudsley's Limited of Dewsbury Road and was equipped to carry 2,600 books, providing a service where there was no branch library in the locality. The mobile service cost £9,000 to put on the road. It travelled a different route each day of the week between Monday and Saturday. Monday to Friday their service operated between the hours of 9.00am and 8.00pm and on Saturday between 9.00am and 5.00pm. In the picture, from left to right, are the driver, Norman Judd, and library assistants Joan Hewitt, Cynthia Atkinson and Vilma Crossfield(?)
