Image shows Yeadon High Street, looking up in the direction of Harrogate Road. The cobbled surface of the Town Hall square is visible on the right where a small market is held on Fridays. From the bus stop with shelter buses can be caught to Guiseley, Otley, Shipley and Bradford. Off camera, right is the Town Hall building where shows, plays and pantomimes are held on a regular basis. The Town Hall is a meeting place for various clubs and societies and houses a long established playgroup. The building at the right edge is Yeadon Branch Library, and on the left are shops and local businesses including a branch of Yorkshire Bank. Road workings are in place for an improvement of the High Street as part of a £900,000 scheme. This, in turn, is part of a wider, £13 million Town and District Centre Regeneration programme which has benefitted many areas of Leeds and is an investment by Leeds City Council. The Yeadon scheme is designed to make the High Street more pedestrian-friendly and includes resurfacing of the pavements in Yorkshire stone with granite kerb edging, the provision of Heritage style benches, signposts and planters, and the landscaping of the roundabout at the junction of the High Street with Cemetery Road and Harper Lane. The work is being carried out by North Midland Construction and is expected to be completed by November 2009.
